When Betty died, we’d been talking about recording an album for months, but hadn’t gotten around to it. These songs were recorded at practice, with no intention of anyone else ever hearing them. It’s been so important to us to have these recordings in the wake of loss, so we wanted to share them. They’re terrible recordings and not particularly listenable, but they’re what we have. If you saw us play live, you know they’re actually a pretty accurate representation of the Velvet Horns, in all its messy glory.

So this is for Betty, who was always the first to help out, and the last one to leave the party. An obsessive measure-counting virgo, who forced us to write things down and decide how the songs went. Betty learned to play bass for the Velvet Horns, and was fucking good at it, too. For Betty, who we miss terribly, and who taught us not to wait. It truly is later than you think.
